Profits at China's major industrial firms fell during the first eight months in the face of renewed COVID-19 outbreaks and slackening domestic and external demand.

For the January-August period, industrial firms each with annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan saw their combined profits reach 5.53 trillion yuan, down 2.1 percent year-on-year, the National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday.

The combined revenues of these firms sustained a quicker growth pace during the period, rising 8.4 percent year on year to 87.89 trillion yuan, NBS data showed.

In August, profits in 27 of the 41 industrial sectors surveyed rose or narrowed decline compared with the previous month, most of which are middle and downstream industries.Senior NBS statistician Zhu Hong pointed out the improvement in business profit structure and curbed rising momentum in the prices of some commodities have eased pressure on downstream producers.

Profits of equipment manufacturing enterprises picked up from a 5.7-percent decline in the first seven months, falling by 2 percent on a yearly basis in the first eight months, thanks to recovery in the industrial and supply chain. Profits recorded by mining firms grew by 88.1 percent, while profits at manufacturing firms and industrial firms which supply electricity, heat, gas and water shrank by 13.4 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively.

Notably, profits at the auto manufacturing enterprises increased by 1.02 times in August, as stimulus policies to boost auto consumption saw effect. And profits of consumer goods manufacturing have continued to improve thanks to an array of pro-consumption measures by the government to boost market demand.

However, Zhu warned of difficulties and challenges such as high production and operating costs and uncertainties in the external environment, saying more efforts will be made to fully implement the existing stimulus policy measures, further ease burdens for enterprises and promote the steady growth in the industry.

国家统计局27日公布数据显示，1-8月份，全国规模以上工业企业实现利润总额55254.0亿元，同比下降2.1%泰达币(USDT)。国家统计局工业司高级统计师朱虹对工业企业利润数据进行了解读。

1-8月份工业企业利润变化情况呈现以下主要特点：

一是工业企业营收保持增长，利润结构有所改善泰达币(USDT)。1-8月份，全国规模以上工业企业营业收入同比增长8.4%，延续较快增长态势；企业利润同比下降2.1%。随着部分大宗商品价格涨幅回落，工业企业利润上下游结构明显改善，装备制造业利润降幅连续4个月收窄，电力行业利润持续回升。从8月份看，在41个工业大类行业中，有27个行业利润增速较上月加快或降幅收窄、由降转增，占比超六成，其中多数为中下游行业。

二是装备制造业利润降幅明显收窄，利润占比提高泰达币(USDT)。随着产业链供应链进一步畅通，装备制造业利润增长明显恢复。1-8月份，装备制造业利润同比下降2.0%，降幅较1-7月份收窄3.7个百分点。从8月份看，受支持汽车消费政策等因素推动，汽车制造业产销进一步加快，利润同比增长1.02倍，为一年来最高增速。

三是电力行业利润改善明显泰达币(USDT)。工业生产持续恢复叠加高温天气影响导致用电需求旺盛，发电量增速逐月加快并升至近年高位，带动电力行业利润快速恢复。8月份电力行业利润同比增长1.58倍，增速较上月加快111.8个百分点。

四是消费品制造业盈利状况有所好转泰达币(USDT)。随着促消费政策效应不断释放，市场需求有所回升，多数消费品行业利润改善。8月份，消费品制造业利润同比降幅较上月明显收窄，盈利状况有所好转。在13个消费品制造行业中，有8个行业利润较上月改善，4个行业利润实现两位数增长。

五是外资企业月度利润由降转增，小微企业利润降幅收窄泰达币(USDT)。8月份，在规模以上工业企业中，外商及港澳台商投资企业营收增长加快，利润由上月同比下降转为增长6.0%；小微企业利润同比下降4.1%，降幅较上月有所收窄，利润恢复程度好于全部工业。

总体看，工业企业效益呈现恢复态势，当月利润降幅较上月收窄，行业结构有所改善，中下游行业利润继续恢复泰达币(USDT)。但也要看到，工业企业利润仍在下降，企业生产经营成本仍较高，加之外部环境不稳定不确定因素较多，工业企业利润恢复的基础不牢。下阶段，要加力推进稳经济一揽子政策和接续政策效能释放，着力扩大有效需求，加大助企纾困力度，推动工业经济持续稳定恢复。

As energy and inflation crises risk snowballing into recessions in major economies, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict shows no signs of easing, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) cut its forecast for global economic growth. While global growth this year was still expected to be 3.0 percent, it is now projected to slow to 2.2 percent in 2023, revised down from a forecast in June of 2.8 percent, the Paris-based policy forum said on Monday. China has offered 64.63 billion yuan to businesses to save jobs this year, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Sunday. Unemployment insurance refunds totaling 44.84 billion yuan were given to some 7.21 million enterprises, or more than half of all employers covered by the social security net, in the first eight months of the year. Airbus has signed an agreement with China National Aviation Fuel Group to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for its delivery flight operations from Airbus Delivery Center in Tianjin on Monday. The fuel, which will be provided by SINOPEC Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co, is made from used cooking oil. Lihao Semiconductor Materials, a Chinese photovoltaic materials maker, said on Tuesday that it has secured 2.2 billion yuan in its latest financing round. The proceeds will be used to build the second phase of Lihao’s high-purity crystalline silicon project, the firm added. Expected to have an annual capacity of 200,000 tons once all three phases are completed, the project has a total investment of 18 billion yuan. However, the company also noted that it will no longer expect to begin deliveries of the FF 91 in the third or fourth quarter of 2022. Chinese shares rebounded on Tuesday, as consumer and tourism stocks rebounded ahead of a week-long National Day holiday and amid the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Hong Kong and Macau SARs. By the close, the benchmark Shanghai Composite went up 1.4 percent and the Shenzhen Component jumped 1.94 percent.
